On Saturday, I had a stall for the second time at the lovely Northfields Night Market and it was great!! I discovered it last summer whilst doing some serious researching on markets in my local area, and so booked for the Christmas market which was very conveniently at the end of November - a great time to encourage people to start buying Christmas presents (or buy the last few for the ridiculously organised people out there!!!)
So when they mentioned a Spring market I though why not, and thought it would be interesting to see how busy it was, as my experience of some other markets at this time of year has been a little disappointing. But it was great!!!
I was very excited to see a lovely couple that I recognised from the Christmas market who arrived with an adorable new baby, and had remembered me from the previous market and had come back to buy a baby mobile - always great to hear!
It's such a well organised market, just down the road from Northfields underground station, and full of loads of lovely crafts, local businesses advertising, food stalls and live entertainment!
I am very much looking forward to the next one!!

Banda Island, Lake Victoria, Uganda
I'm currently re-watching Long Way Down (whilst knitting) and it takes me back to my trip from Cairo to Jo'burg back in 2009/10 which was one of the best adventures of my life.
One gorgeous place we went to was Banda Island, in Lake Victoria which we heard about whilst drinking with some locals at the NRE (Nile River Explorers) in Jinja. We were basically given a phone number to text, told to wait a few days (as to get signal on the island you have to stand on some rocks leaning out over the lake) and we would be sent directions as to how to get there.
Which we did. At this point we weren't sure if Banda Island was just a bit of a backpacker urban myth, so we were excited to get a response with directions.
We had to get a bus to Kasenyi, which is a short matatu ride from Kampala, and then ask for the boat to Banda. So far so good. We were also asked to buy sliced white bread on the way as the owner had been craving it and noone had visited in a while.
When we got to Kasenyi, and found the boat, we were told that we had to be carried onto the boat. At this point we thought 'haha, this is just a ploy to get more money from the mzungus' so we stalled for a while, until we saw locals paying the 20p equivalent to also be carried onto the boat and realised that they hadn't been having us on!

So we piled into the fishing boat in the picture above, and by the time we were set off, we were loaded with about 30 people, luggage, and a handful of goats and chickens, that the water was only about 4 inches below the top of the boat.
Which was fine until the weather turned. The wind picked up, the rain poured down and the waves were pouring over the side of the boat. Then it got dark. Bearing in mind that we'd paid to be carried into the boat so that we didn't go in the water and catch Bilharzia, we were now drenched!! Although that was the least of our worries as we were genuinely convinced at this point that we were going to die. We'd been told the journey would take 2/3 hours so after 4, with no idea where we were, the engine intermittently cutting out, and, the storm worsening, we really thought this was the end!
After about 5 hours, we stopped again, and this time addressed by the captain and told to get out. In pitch dark sea this is terrifying. Then we saw a small boat had pulled along side us, probably about the size of a Canadian canoe. In it was a Ugandan lady, wearing a life jacket, bailing water out of the bottom of the boat, and praying loudly.
In this situation, it's not really clear where is the better place to be, but we did as we were told and got into this canoe. Luckily, about 45 mins later WE SAW LAND!!!!
With a very worried looking Dom who had been expecting us hours before! Luckily we had a great welcome, and were plied with home made banana liquor which was deadly, and plenty of food.
It turned out we were the only people who had been to Banda Island for a while and it was great! We spent the days lazing, drinking banana liquor, feasting, and chatting to Dom, hearing tales of his life growing up in East Africa.
Our accommodation was right on the beach and beautifully comfortable and the island had the fanciest long drop I'd ever seen!!!
So watching Long Way Down made me think of my visit here, and I was very saddened to learn that Dom has since passed away. We had such a great time on Banda, and learnt so much about the Island and life in East Africa. However, I am pleased that the legend of Banda Island is still continuing and people are still going to visit.
Despite the near death experience on the way there, it was still one of my favourite places in Africa and I would definitely recommend anyone in the area to go and visit!

Baby Mobiles
I'm at that age where I'm definitely not yet 30 but I can't really describe myself as being mid-twenties any more. When I do online surveys and have to tick the '26-34' box that upsets me as it sounds older than I feel!
One occurrence of being the age that I am is that friends and friends of friends keep having babies (I suppose very normal at our age) and so luckily, this means baby mobiles seem a great present!
I have been updating and adapting my traditional elephant mobile designs and here are some photos of my latest ideas:

We Make London
We live near (I say near as I LOVE to walk everywhere) the canal in Acton and so I love to wander along the canal, either on foot or by bike. I've cycled the canal path from Limehouse in the East, all the way out to the River Brent in the West and then around and about with the Thames to get back to my house.
Normally, Camden is one of the least exciting parts as it is full of tourists and difficult to get through, but I was very excited on a quiet day last year to discover the beautiful 'We Make London' shop, full of gorgeous gifts made by lovely London residents like myself.
Excitingly, in March, I was given the opportunity to start stocking some of my items there and I am very exciting to have sold a fair few things already!

The Art of the Brick
My auntie and I, at the recommendation of my cousin and his girlfriend, went to the Lego exhibition in Brick Lane (appropriate) yesterday and it was AMAZING!!
I had high expectations before arriving on how impressive everything would be but I just had no idea quite how incredible all of the artworks would be.
Every room we walked in to was greeted by a who host of 'WOW's' which just helped to build up the excitement as we went round, and before we left we had to walk back through all of the pieces again because it was just too goo to leave!
Here are some of my favourite images and go and visit it!!

I was expecting 3D sculptures in Lego but I could not get over how incredible all of the 2D artworks were, and I was not expecting anything like this!!
I would love a Lego globe....maybe when my nephew is older we will have to have a play...

Inspiralize Your Life!!
I bought I spiralizer last week, on the recommendation of my cousin and his girlfriend. I'd been slowly reading about them in more and more places, but as soon as I saw them and they raved about 'courgetti' I just knew I had to have one (courgettes were my vegetable of last summer with my courgette and lemon cake becoming my new cake speciality!!).
So I bought the Hemsley + Hemsley Spiralizer from Amazon and I think it is amazing! I'd read reviews that said upright ones were best, because the vegetables don't slip out, but then everyone who had bought one, seemed to have one like this so I decided to go with the masses. And IT IS AMAZING!!!
I have used it every day so far and without really trying have massively upped my vegetable intake. Plus anything spiralled looks really cool. I have always been a stickler for my 5 fruit and veg a day, but have recently upped this to 10, with the aim of eating more veg as a lot of my intake tends to be fruit which is not so good for me.
Since last Tuesday, when it arrived just in time for dinner, here's what I have spiralled....
TUESDAY: Thai red curry (onion, pepper, tomato, mushrooms, sweetcorn, aubergine) with courgoodles (courgette noodles). I did also try and spiral the aubergine but it just went a bit mushy and shredded and didn't really work.
WEDNESDAY: The classic, courgetti bolognese (with onions, tomatoes, mushrooms and carrots in the sauce)
Verdict = courgettes are super easy to spiral, if they're a bit wonky I just cut them on the bendy bit and spiralize them in sections which works perfectly. They are also nicely soft so very easy to spiral. And both nights we ate just one courgette spiralled between the 2 of us and a normal portion of the rest of dinner and were nicely full.
THURSDAY: Chorizo sausages with spiralled potatoes, spiralled carrots, mushrooms, onions and garlic.
Verdict = I thought the harder veg might not work as well but the blades are so sharp that the carrots went through with little more effort. The only downside is that you need really fat carrots to make proper spirals, but my thinner carrots gave nice arcs, and then I munched on the middles whilst cooking. Yum!
The potatoes worked amazingly and I just steamed them in with the sausages so they got a lovely chorizo-y flavour. Curly potatoes taste so much nicer than plain boiled potatoes for some reason, and we weren't tempted to add butter which we normally would have so well worth it!
FRIDAY: Wraps with humous, courgetti and peppers. Amazingly delicious!!
SATURDAY: Wraps with boursin and courgetti. Again, AMAZING!!!
I own a fair few kitchen gadgets which I do use fairly often, however, never have I had one that I am so in love with that I want to use it every day! I think the fact that it's not electric so you can dump the whole thing in the sink to wash it if you want helps too so I would recommend to everyone GO AND BUY A SPIRALIZER!!!!

Knitted Fascinators
So as it's a new year, it's about time for a new line. I have been thinking about this idea for a while but have only just had time (after the Christmas rush) to actually get round to making anything.
So far I have 2 styles of knitted fascinator: mini top hat, and swirly round.
